From vaulting in Rio to vaulting in Britomart.

Olympic bronze-medallist Eliza McCartney will apply her athletic talents in the unorthodox surrounds of Auckland's CBD as part of a February athletics series.

In what will be her first event of 2017, the 20-year-old Aucklander has signed up to pole vault in the 2017 Vertical Pursuit at Britomart's indoor Atrium.

She'll compete against Kiwi young gun Olivia McTaggart, holder of the national under-17 record, as well as a number of USA-based vaulters.

The vaulting competition makes up one third of the athletics series across New Zealand, with a 1000m race and shot put meet held in the Christchurch CBD.

Local shot putters Tom Walsh and Jacko Gill will both take part, competing against USA Olympic gold-medallist Ryan Crouser.

The annual Auckland Track Challenge will then complete the series, encompassing short and middle-distance running, shot put and pole vault.

A "People's Mile" will also be held at the track challenge, a public 1500m running event led by two-time Olympic medallist Nick Willis.
