McClay wants stronger trade with Colombia

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 20/05/2016

The government wants to strengthen trade with Colombia and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise has opened an office in Bogota.

Trade Minister Todd McClay, who is visiting Colombia, says it's New Zealand's sixth largest export market in South America and it makes sense to have experts on the ground.

Colombian economist Elvira Martinez has been appointed as NZTE's country manager.

"The country has a strong economy and a strategically important location between Central and South America," Mr McClay said on Friday.

"Having a New Zealand presence will help businesses to be more effective in building links with businesses in Colombia."

Exports to Colombia were worth $26.8 million last year, while imports were valued at $15.7m.
