Pace bowler Mitchell McClenaghan has climbed to third on the Indian Premier League's wicket-taking list following his match-winning deeds for the Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by five wickets with a ball to spare to go top of the IPL standings with four rounds remaining, boosted by the former of new ball spearhead McClenaghan.

The left-armer took 3-34, including the vital scalp of Indian captain Virat Kohli, as Bangalore were dismissed for 162-8.

Mumbai timed their chase to perfection, reaching 165-5 off 19.5 overs to make it eight wins from 10.

McClenaghan, who was recalled to New Zealand's squad for the looming Champions Trophy tournament in England, has taken 15 wickets this season.

That figure is bettered only by Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar (20 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad) and South African spinner Imran Tahir (16 for Rising Pune Supergiants).

Former Black Caps captain Brendon McCullum is sixth on the run-scoring charts following his 45 off 27 balls in a losing cause for the Gujarat Lions.

The Lions posted 161, which was run down by Pune with a ball to spare. New Zealand-born England allrounder Ben Stokes whacked an unbeaten 103 off 63 balls, including a six off the penultimate ball from Australian James Faulkner, as the home side reached 167-5.
