McCulloch fit for netball grand final

NZN 27/07/2016 By Adrian Warren

NSW Swifts midcourter Abbey McCulloch has declared herself fit to play in Sunday's trans-Tasman netball grand final, but has no idea if she will hold onto her starting spot.

McCulloch hurt an ankle in the closing minutes of Monday's semi-final win over the Magic in Hamilton, but was passed fit to train on Wednesday.

"I'm not missing this (the grand final) for the world," McCulloch told AAP.

"I'm fine, (it was) just a little tweak to my ankle.

"It's happened a couple of times this year, so it's nothing I'm not used to.

"I've seen the physio today and I'm all good to go, so its not a problem at all."

McCulloch started last week's game and the 2015 grand final against the Firebirds in Brisbane.

However, with three intentional midcourters at the Swifts in Kim Green, Paige Hadley and Laura Langman, McCulloch knows there's no guarantee coach Rob Wright will put her in the starting seven for Sunday's rematch with Firebirds in Brisbane.

"He's keeping everyone guessing, even us," McCulloch said.

"It's really good for us because it means we have to always be training hard.

"No one is complacent that they are going to be getting a bib."

If she doesn't start, McCulloch will be focused on making an impact if she does get the call rather than being a cheerleader on the bench.

"I don't like to get that emotionally invested in the game on the bench in compared to some of the other girls," McCulloch said.

"I'm not generally jumping out of my seat screaming because I'm sitting there watching, making sure that I know what I need to do against my player when I get out there.

"You do need to be ready at any time because you never know what Rob is going to do.

"You've got to be ready to go. That's something that I've prided myself on this year.

"I think I've done a really good job of that and if that's what I have to do on Sunday, that's what I have to do and I'll be ready."
