McDonald's Wellington central caught on fire this morning © TVNZ McDonald's Wellington central caught on fire this morning McDonald's is investigating what caused a fire in its central Wellington restaurant, but it's shut up shop in the meantime.

Fire crews rushed to the Manners St restaurant at about 7am on Thursday, where it appeared a vat had caught fire, spreading flames up through the roof.

A McDonald's spokesman said the manager tried to extinguish the fire, then evacuated the restaurant.

Initial reports suggested there was no significant damage, but specialists would arrive on site on Thursday to inspect the restaurant equipment and the building, he said.

Once that was complete, McDonald's could establish when it would reopen.

No customers or staff were injured in the blaze.
