Former England head coach and current Warriors staffer Steve McNamara has signed on as assistant coach of the Kiwis as the team plans their Rugby League World Cup campaign.

New Zealand Rugby League has also announced administrator Shane Richardson will take on the newly created role of campaign manager for the New Zealand side ahead of October's tournament.

McNamara becomes the sole Kiwis assistant coach to be confirmed ahead of May's ANZAC Test match against Australia in Canberra.

Kiwis coach David Kidwell said an independent review after last years' Four Nations found there was a greater need for leadership on and off the field.

"Steve has spent time as an assistant at both the Sydney Roosters as well as now at the Warriors, but he also knows international rugby league having been the Great Britain assistant and the England head coach," Kidwell said.
