Former Olympian Jeff McVean is Equestrian Sport New Zealand's new high performance manager.

McVean, whose involvement at the 1984 and 1988 Games were the highlight of a 45-year competitive career, says he is ready for the task of following New Zealand's platoon of offshore-based riders.

"Showjumping is my life," the 62-year-old said.

"I have the experience and understand the highs and lows of the sport, and there are plenty of those."

The high performance squad is spread between Europe, North America and New Zealand, building towards the goal of fielding a team at next year's World Equestrian Games in North Carolina.
