A medical supply bag has gone missing while St John Ambulance staff treated a young boy during a scene in Papakura that police described as volatile.

Paramedics were treating a 13-year-old boy for serious injuries after he fell off a bike but left quickly after the patient and others, including a number of heavily intoxicated people, became aggressive toward them.

"In their haste they have not realised that a medical supply bag was missing," a police spokeswoman said.

"It is unclear at this stage whether the bag has been taken while ambulance staff were at the scene or inadvertently left behind by St John staff."

After taking the boy to hospital paramedics returned to the scene on Cross Street with police to locate the bag but were unsuccessful.
