Frankfurst have moved into third place on the Bundesliga table after beating Schalke 1-0.

Club icon Alexander Meier has scored the 1-0 winner as Eintracht Frankfurt got their first Bundesliga victory win in almost 18 years at Schalke.

Meier's 33rd-minute low shot lifted Frankfurt into temporary third place as they recovered well from last week's 3-0 drubbing at second-placed RB Leipzig and underlined their European ambitions.

Schalke had only few chances in another disappointing display, after barely beating second bottom Ingolstadt 1-0 in the previous game.

The first home defeat against Frankfurt since May 1999 leaves them 11 points behind the opponents in 10th place - and facing an uphill battle if they don't want miss out on a European berth for the first time since 2009.
