Melbourne City striker Harry Novillo is in danger of being banned for his side's A-League elimination final for his part in a heated half-time scuffle with Adelaide United last weekend.

An all-in melee between both clubs' players and coaches erupted at AAMI Park on Friday night as they headed down the tunnel at halftime of the Reds' 2-0 win.

Novillo was slapped with a show-cause notice by the A-League match review panel on Monday, after he appeared to kick out during the incident.

The 24-year-old French import has until midday (AEST) on Tuesday to respond.

Ex-City midfielder Stefan Mauk sparked the tussle after baiting his former team's bench, which prompted City goalkeeper coach Joey Didulica to grab the 20-year-old by the throat.

Both Novillo and Mauk received yellow cards for unsporting behaviour before the start of the second half.

Didulica, meanwhile, has been charged with assaulting a player, with the panel proposing a four-match sanction.

He may refer the matter to the disciplinary committee for a hearing, and has until midday (AEST) on Tuesday to signal his intent to do so.
