Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio is confident his side can contain New Zealand's 'All Blacks spirit' as El Tri look to move a step closer to the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup with victory in Sochi.

A stoppage-time equaliser from Roma defender Hector Moreno secured a 2-2 draw from their Group A opener against Portugal in Kazan.

After shackling the talents of Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo and his Euro 2016 winners, Osorio knows his men now face a completely different test when they run out at the Fisht Olympic Stadium against the All Whites, who went down 2-0 against hosts Russia on Saturday.

"We recognise New Zealand are a strong team, with a good aerial game, very physical," Osorio said.

"In some regards, they have that team spirit which represents not only the New Zealander national soccer team, but also the All Blacks and rugby teams.

"Hopefully we will match that intensity, determination and willingness to compete for every single ball.

"Our talent can surprise them - and that can be the factor which can win us the match".

Mexico winger Hirving Lozano is a expected to be available after jetting to Holland to complete his transfer to PSV Eindhoven, with the 21-year-old set to be back in Russia on Wednesday morning.
