Sir Michael Caine says he would prefer the United Kingdom be a poor master rather than a rich servant and that's why he voted for Brexit.

The English actor and author says that he believe's Britain's exit from the Eurpean Union will work out in the end, adding that in politics it is always chaotic as leaders enter new areas, get a bit lost and then find their way again.

"I voted for Brexit," he told Sky News.

"I look at it in the final thing, and I'll tell you what it is with me is I'd rather be a poor master than a rich servant.

"It wasn't about the racism, immigrants or anything, it was about freedom."

Before the EU referendum, Sir Michael told the BBC he preferred leaving the EU.

"To me, I think what you have in Europe is a government-by-proxy of everybody who has now got carried away," he said.

"I think that, unless there are some extremely significant changes we should get out.

"I feel certain we should come out."
