Payne fell from Dutch Courage, trained by her brother Patrick Payne, during race seven and was immediately attended to by medics, who opted to take her to hospital for further observation.

"Michelle Payne to go to hospital for observation, fully conscious and has movement of arms and legs, complaining of abdominal pain," a Racing Victoria statement read.

The following race was delayed after Payne received treatment on the track.

Earlier in the day, Payne rode to victory upon Chamois Road and Matamanoa to complete a double for her brother.

The incident comes only hours after a nasty collision at a meet in Taree saw five horses clash and four jockeys taken to hospital.
