Millar, 24, crossed the line in Hamilton in a time of 10.18, nearly a tenth of a second faster than the previous record held by Chris Donaldson.

However the time was not enough to send him to this year's World Championships in London, falling below the cut-off time of 10.12.

In the women's race, meanwhile, Auckland young gun Zoe Hobbs cruised to victory with a solid time of 11.93.
