Minibar taps Amazon Echo so you can order booze with your voice

TechCrunch TechCrunch 11/07/2016 Jordan Crook

Imagine ordering a drink. Usually, you’re in a crowded bar screaming over the music or at a restaurant with clinking silverware.

But today, thanks to an integration from Minibar, Amazon Echo owners can now order the alcohol, beer, or wine of their choice from the comfort of their own home, using only their voice.

Yes, it’s a big day for burgeoning alcoholics across the country.

Minibar is an on-demand alcohol delivery service that operates in 26 markets across the country. Through an app, users can select their favorite alcoholic options and have it delivered via store courier direct to their work, home, etc. In fact, users can even subscribe to a particular order with specified delivery windows.

Alongside technical partnerships, such as one with Amazon Echo, Minibar has also forged some new brick-and-mortar partnerships. The delivery startup is teaming up with Total Wine & More, as well as Crown Liquor.

These big retail chains make it easier for Minibar to quickly source and deliver the chosen beverages of their users while also providing added revenue to the chains themselves.

Minibar says it is on track to do $35 million in revenue this year.

The space is crowded — Drizly and Thirstie are just a few competitors going toe-to-toe with Minibar — but the company is laser focused on making in-roads that deliver convenience (as well as alcohol) to the end user.
