The body of a Kiwi diver missing off the south coast of France has been found.

Coromandel man Rhys Cochrane, 24, didn't return after going for a swim off a yacht on which he was working near Cannes on Monday.

Employment company Hemisphere Crew Solution on Friday said his body had been found on the seabed.

A Givealittle page raising money to fund the search for Mr Cochrane had raised more than $24,000 by Friday and also confirmed his body had been found.

It described him as a "competent and experienced swimmer and diver, growing up in Hahei, and working in the family-owned dive business".

"Swimming from the yacht was not an unusual thing for him or the crew to do on a daily basis."

In 2012, Mr Cochran made headlines when he rescued and filmed an orca caught in a crayfish pot line.
