A Perth-based New Zealander who friends and family said went missing on a trip to Bali with a Tinder date has reportedly been found playing a drum on a Thai beach.

Waikato man Josh Goudswaard, 32, was due to fly back to Perth on November 6 after telling colleagues he was going on holiday with a woman called Anita.

His failure to return as expected sparked fears for his safety.

However, a friend, Aaron Smith, said on social media on Thursday that Mr Goudswaard had been found and New Zealand police had confirmed security footage of him leaving Bali.

He said New Zealand blogger Trippin' Through Life told him that a reader, American tourist Brett Frischer, had recognised Mr Goudwaard in Thailand.

In a Facebook post, Mr Smith wrote: "Thanks to TTL & Brett Frischer, Josh was found in Thailand and I quote, 'Ya it was him. He's running around learning to play his hang drum. I told him his last name and he looked surprised. I'll make sure he realises how big this has become'."

He said it turned out that Mr Goudswaard had "taken some time-out".

Mr Smith had previously said it was out of character for his friend to leave his business and staff in limbo.
