Missing Taupo woman's body found

Barbara Thompson, 75, didn't return from a regular fishing trip at the mouth of Waitahanui River, 5 kilometres from her home, on Tuesday morning.

Dive teams searching Lake Taupo found her body on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The circumstances of the death were not suspicious and the death had been referred to the coroner, a police spokeswoman said.

Police said they had been called by Ms Thompson's husband at 11am on Tuesday after she didn't return and later found her car still parked near the river.

Ms Thompson was a well-known equestrian photographer, Fairfax reports.
