Two missing teenage boys who spent a night in bushland in Lower Hutt have been found.

Members of the public came upon the two 14-year-olds in East Harbour Regional Park at 8.20am on Sunday and the boys walked out with them.

The teens had headed off for a day walk from the top of Wainuiomata Hill on Saturday morning but became lost and used mobile phones to call their families.

The pair had been carrying only day packs.

Search teams including five ground crews, a search and rescue dog and helicopter had hunted for them until midnight on Saturday and resumed again at first light on Sunday morning.
