Mitch Evans climbs to second in GP2 series

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 3/07/2016

New Zealand driver Mitch Evans has surged into second place in the GP2 world series following a successful weekend in Austria.

Evans followed his win in Saturday's feature race with an eighth placing in the 28-lap sprint race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg to leap six places after four rounds.

The 22-year-old is 10 points behind leader Italian Raffaele Marciello and boasting renewed confidence after a patchy start to the season with his new team, Pertamina Campos Racing.

"I hope our dark days are now over," he said.

"It's hard to be consistent in this series but hopefully it's a turning point for the rest of the year."

The teams have a week to prepare for the fifth round at Silverstone.
