Money donations needed in Edgecumbe

Financial donations and helping hands are needed in the flood-ravaged Bay of Plenty town of Edgecumbe rather than donations of food, clothing or objects, Civil Defence says.

"Loads" of volunteers are still on the ground, despite many who helped over the weekend having to return to work from all over the country including Tauranga, Hamilton and Auckland, as well as locals.

This, along with financial contributions would be the best way to help victims of Cyclone Cook, Whakatane Civil Defence controller, Paula Chapman, said.

On Tuesday residents were finally able to make direct contact with their insurers.

There are no more areas without electrical power as well, and Horizon are now focusing on individual faults.

Water and sewerage are back on but there's still a boil water notice in place.

There's been an influx of mid-term accommodation offers from around the Bay of Plenty, Ms Chapman, said.
