The Monkees 50th Anniversary Tour will take in the New Zealand centres at the end of November.

The made-for-television group of Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and the late Davy Jones was assembled in 1965 and the first episode of The Monkees screened in the US in 1966.

The band outlived their television series and are famous for hits such as Last Train to Clarksville, Daydream Believer, Pleasant Valley Sunday and I'm a Believer.

The anniversary tour is touted as featuring all their hits, clips from the television series and solo spots from both men.

Dolenz, 71, says it will be the first time he's been to New Zealand since the 1980s.

Tickets go on sale later this week.
