Montpellier edge Caen in Ligue 1 thriller

Casimir Ninga continued his hot streak with a brace as 10-man Montpellier held on for a 3-2 win against Caen in French football's Ligue 1.

Ninga, who scored a hat-trick at Dijon in his last match, opened the scoring after just three minutes and then netted what proved to be the winner in the 77th minute after Steve Mounie - the scorer of Montpellier's other goal - had been sent off.

Caen twice levelled through Alaeddine Yahia and Ivan Santini, but they could not make the most of their one-man advantage in the closing stages.

Guingamp are up to fifth after Sloan Privat's first-half goal gave them a 1-0 victory over Lille.

Eder came close to an equaliser for Lille, but they have now lost five of their last six Ligue 1 matches.

Angers leapfrogged Bastia into eighth place thanks to a brace from Famara Diedhiou in a 2-1 win.

The Senegal striker opened the scoring and then restored Angers' lead after Thievy had levelled for Bastia on the stroke of half-time.

Nantes beat Lorient 2-1 to make it back-to-back league victories.

Nantes took the lead against the run of play through Yacine Bammou and were given a two-goal cushion by Guillaume Gillet.

Pierre-Yves Hamel scored on his league debut with 10 minutes remaining, but Lorient could not force an equaliser.
