Mooy, Fornaroli share City A-League gong

NZN 9/04/2016

Golden boot winner Bruno Fornaroli and Socceroo Aaron Mooy, the A-League's best assister, have shared Melbourne City's player of the year award.

Fittingly, given the number of goals the pair have combined for across the campaign, the all-star duo couldn't be split for the prize.

Fornaroli scored 23 goals during the season, a new A-League benchmark, and became the expansion club's all-time leading scorer in the process.

Attacking midfielder Mooy made 20 assists and scored 11 goals of his own, retaining the award he won last year in his first season with City.

Player of the year was the headline gong at the club's awards night held on Saturday.

In a surprise, understated midfielder Aivi Luik claimed the same prize for City's W-League team in their championship-winning year.

The 31-year-old upstaged golden boot winner Larissa Crummer and City's band of internationals to win the gong.

Members of City's football department voted on the awards.
