More money for regional tourism

The government is committing half of its $8 million a year tourism development fund to regional projects.

Associate Tourism Minister Paula Bennett says it will be used for infrastructure and to help businesses get up and running.

"We know it's often harder for regional businesses to attract investment to get started," she said on Thursday.

"The sector was telling us the existing structure was too strict on smaller regional projects."

The remaining $4m of the Tourism Growth Partnership fund will continue to be used to support innovative projects that increase productivity in the sector.
