More money for teacher aides in budget

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 10/05/2016

There'll be an extra $15.3 million in this year's budget to put more teacher aides in classrooms.

Education Minister Hekia Parata says the funding boost will benefit an additional 1250 students.

"The operating funding increase, to be spread over four years, will ensure that students with a range of learning difficulties receive support tailored to their individual learning needs," she said.

"Together with the increased funding in last year's budget, the government is now funding an extra 550,000 hours of classroom support for students with additional learning needs."

Ms Parata said the government will look to further expand funding for more teacher aides in the future.
