NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 25/09/2016

The search for an Auckland teenager who went missing in Coromandel has grown to involve more than 40 people.

Lucas Cochrane, 19, was last seen at a function at Whitianga Fire Station late on Saturday night.

About 30 search specialists are working to find him, with a dozen of Mr Cochrane's family and friends also helping, including his parents.

Police say the teams, assisted by the police helicopter Eagle, are searching farms, small pockets of bush, roadways and waterways on Monday.

They say local residents have been providing home baking and other refreshments to the searchers.

Mr Cochrane is described as European, 182cm tall and of medium build, with short, sandy coloured hair.

When he was last seen, he was wearing a black t-shirt, dark blue jeans, black peaked cap and white Nike shoes with red and blue on them.

Police say they have been told his disappearance is "completely out of character".
