Motorcyclist killed north of Huntly

A motorcyclist killed in a crash in Waikato was on trial on a host of sex abuse charges.

Garry John Jones, 64, was facing 49 charges of sexual offending against nine complainants in the High Court at Hamilton.

The offending was alleged to have taken place in Whakatane, Kawerau and Taupo in the 1970s and 1980s and the charges included rape, abduction for sex, and assault with intent to commit sexual violation.

Jones died when his motorbike hit a median barrier on State Highway 1 north of Huntly at Rangiriri about 7.15am on Monday.

The trial began on April 4.
