Whanganui MP Chester Borrows is headed for trial on a charge of careless use of a motor vehicle causing injury.

Judge Jim Large has turned down an application to toss out the charge, Fairfax Media has reported.

A National MP and Deputy Speaker, Mr Borrows first appeared in Whanganui District Court in August over an incident at a protest in his electorate in March against the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.

He has denied the charge.

No date has yet been set to hear the case, which is subject to suppression orders.
