Nadolo fizzing for Crusaders return

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 26/05/2016

Nemani Nadolo wants to be biggest spark plug in Super Rugby.

The hulking Crusaders winger returns from a four-week suspension to face the Blues at Eden Park on Saturday.

Then he's got another three-week break on his plate.

"There's a bit of an onus on me to come in and lift the boys up and bring some energy to the team," he said.

Nadolo would have been playing Tests for Fiji in the looming June international window but has pulled out for personal reasons, wanting to address a family issue in Queensland.

Nadolo spent two weeks of his suspension period there too, where he appreciated a chance to refresh both physically and mentally.

The 28-year-old reckons he returned to Christchurch still weighing 130kg but having replaced fat with muscle after linking with a personal trainer.

Nadolo reckons All Blacks lock Luke Romano told him to move to another part of the gym when lifting weights during a Crusaders session.

"Those guys, they don't like a back who can lift more than a forward," he said.

"Physically I'm probably in the best shape I've been in all season. I took care of my niggles and it's something I look forward to showing."

Nadolo, who has scored 25 tries in his 35 Crusaders games, will join French club Montpellier later in the year.
