Police say the woman signed up on Match.com soon after she was widowed and began exchanging emails, texts and phone calls with a man who claimed to be a civil engineer working in China.

He later began asking for money for work projects, which she sent to various accounts around the globe after he promised to pay her back.

Police say she discovered she’d been scammed when he said he wanted to marry her but failed to show up at the city where they had arranged to meet.
