National names new Northland candidate

The National Party has named the candidate it hopes will be able to take back the once-safe seat of Northland in next year's election.

Northland man Matt King, a farmer, fraud investigator and former police detective, has been selected as the person to contest the seat in the 2017 general election.

National lost the electorate seat - which it had held since its creation in 1996 - to New Zealand First leader Winston Peters in a by-election last year, following the resignation of MP Mike Sabin.
