The USS Sampson, HMAS Darwin and HMCS Vancouver will enter Wellington Harbour about 8am on Sunday with New Zealand frigate HMNZS Te Kaha and tanker HMNZS Endeavour.

They are expected to be at anchor about 9am.

HMNZS Canterbury is busy taking evacuees from Kaikoura to Lyttelton.

The vessels visiting Wellington will not be berthing, but will receive VIP visitors via helicopter and on boats.

They are expected to depart for Auckland during the afternoon.

Ships that took part in the International Naval Review for the New Zealand Navy's 75th anniversary have open days in Auckland on Sunday and big crowds are expected.
