Netballer Layton living in the moment

NZN 28/07/2016 Adrian Warren

Everyone's asking about her future, but hot netball property Sharni Layton is determined to live in the present.

The NSW Swifts' defender will arguably be the most sought-after player for the new eight-team domestic competition in 2017.

Her gung-ho attitude on the court combined with her breezy personality off it makes her very marketable.

Layton is aware of all the talk and speculation about where she might play next year, but the Diamonds' defender only wants to think about Sunday's trans-Tasman grand final against the Queensland Firebirds in Brisbane.

"You just push it (the distractions) to one side," Layton told AAP.

"You know that those questions are coming and they come in all sports - it doesn't matter what sport you play.

"But it's so important to be in the now and I do a lot of yoga and meditation.

"I love living in the moment and it is the last year of the ANZ Championship.

"You've got next year to play next year and let that be."

As the trans-Tasman competition draws to its conclusion this weekend, Layton has pondered how her own career has taken off during its nine-season history.

"In my first year at (Melbourne) Vixens in 2008, I was one of six players to not take the court," Layton recalled.

"I thought about quitting in 2009 and 2010 and moved to Adelaide and it all kind of took off from there."

Layton has played in three grand finals, winning titles with Adelaide in 2010 and 2013, and was part of the losing Swifts' side in last year's decider against the Firebirds.

"Sometimes, I do have to absolutely pinch myself," Layton said.

"This week is my favourite week of the year because of the experience that I've had in the past.

"Not everyone gets to play in a grand final; some girls go through their whole career without playing in a grand final.

"I know I'm fortunate, this being my fourth, being able to enjoy that."
