Last week, a retired detective won his case against Kate and Gerry McCann to have the ban lifted on his controversial book, The Truth of the Lie.

However, the parents of missing Madeleine McCann have now warned Goncalo Amaral that their ‘lawyers are watching’ as he prepares to release a second book on the subject.

The couple initially won their libel action against him in 2014 when Amaral was ordered to pay €500K plus interest in damages.

The original book alleged that Madeleine had in fact, died while on holiday with her parents and that they faked a kidnapping to cover it up.

Amaral, who was removed as head of the investigation into Maddie’s disappearance after criticising British detectives, denies defamation and says that what he wrote was based on case files which were available to the public.

The Daily Express are reporting that Amaral’s new book will criticise the way Scotland Yard handled the case.

He is apparently on the ‘closing chapters’ of the book and is looking for a British publisher.

However, family spokesperson for the McCann’s, Clarence Mitchell said:

‘If Mr Amaral’s current book about Madeleine or any new one he may be planning to write is published here in the UK Kate and Gerry’s lawyers will take immediate action.

‘He needs to know lawyers are watching.’

According to the Daily Mail, the former police chief feels highly aggrieved by the situation and may even consider suing the McCanns for allegedly ‘damaging his reputation’ and causing years of personal anguish.

Throughout everything that has happened, Maddie’s parents have resolutely kept faith that their daughter, whose 14th birthday is approaching this May, is alive.
