Netball New Zealand has appointed Keir Hansen its new head of high performance.

Hansen takes over the role from Steve Lancaster who is leaving to join NZ Rugby as head of provincial rugby.

Hansen, who starts in mid-November, comes from High Performance Sport NZ where he was national strength and conditioning manager.

NNZ chief executive Jennie Wyllie says said Hansen's appointment is a key one for the organisation as it builds towards the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Netball World Cup in Liverpool the following year.

"The high performance knowledge and experience that Keir brings to the role will add significant value to NNZ as we aim to regain our position as the number one netball nation."
