The New Zealand rugby sevens side has finished fifth in the Vancouver Sevens after a 17-14 play-off win over Argentina.

Racing out to a 12-0 half-time lead in Canada, the All Blacks Sevens were pegged back by two converted Pumas tries to all but relinquish a top-five berth.

But winger Vilimoni Koroi saved the side's blushes with a stunning try after the siren, nailing a chip-chase to cross the line.

Earlier, the Kiwis fell out of the quarter-finals with a limp 14-12 loss to England, scoring late through skipper Scott Curry to add gloss to the result.

They had initially blitzed their pool with wins over Russia, Scotland and Canada.
