Northern Mystics unveil new coach

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 3/07/2016

The Northern Mystics have promoted Helene Wilson to the role of head coach next year.

Wilson was coach of the Northern team in the inaugural season of the just-completed Beko Netball League, the second-tier national competition.

She will replace Debbie Fuller, who is stepping down after a lengthy involvement with the Mystics, including four seasons as head coach.

Wilson says she is embracing the chance to lead the Mystics into a new-look New Zealand-based elite competition.

The nine-year ANZ Championship structure which has involved Australian teams winds up this year.

"The fresh start with the competition structure gives you a license to explore the style of game you want to play," Wilson said.

"Netball in New Zealand is about flair, excitement and playing an aerial style of game. This is a chance to get back to that."

Wilson's CV includes coaching the New Zealand secondary schools team to wins over Australia and stints as the Mystics assistant coach.

She has coached several of the current Mystics squad at age group level.
