Northern Stars defender Holly Fowler is set to miss the entire ANZ Premiership netball campaign after injuring her left knee in training.

The 19-year-old New Zealand Schools representative damaged her ACL in a team practice match, with the diagnosis confirmed on Wednesday.

The new Kiwi netball franchise, based in south Auckland, will now begin looking for a replacement for Fowler.

"This is devastating news for Holly, she has begun the pre-season strongly and was training incredibly hard," Stars coach Julie Hoornweg said.

"Holly is a tough and determined player - I know she'll dedicate herself to her rehabilitation and come back stronger."

Fowler had defected from fellow Auckland side Northern Mystics for the inaugural ANZ Premiership campaign, which kicks off in late March.

The Stars will play their first match against Southern Steel in Hamilton on March 26, followed by a tussle with Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic a day later.
