Northland Coastguard volunteers have been kept busy, rescuing two people within minutes of each other.

Just before 11.30pm on Tuesday, the Northland Rescue Helicopter was called to help medically evacuate a person from a 12-metre fishing trawler in Bream Bay.

A paramedic was winched down by helicopter but was unable to be taken off, so the Coastguard was sent out, reaching the trawler just after midnight at Urquharts Bay.

The paramedic and patient were transferred to the Coastguard boat and an ambulance met them at Marsden Marina as the trawler was shadowed in.

Another callout, at 11.50pm, had the volunteers meetomg an 8-metre yacht near Russell with mechanical issues.

The skipper had a knee injury and another crew member was suffering from seasickness.

Coastguard found the yacht just after 1am - two of the crew were transferred to the Coastguard vessel, while the skipper was made comfortable on his yacht as it was barged to Waitangi.

An ambulance met the crew at Waitangi Wharf as the man's condition had deteriorated.
