Norwegian man pleads guilty to threatening Maine police

PORTLAND, Maine — A Norwegian man charged with making threats against Maine police has pleaded guilty in federal court.

Twenty-eight-year-old Espen Brungodt, of Bergen, Norway, pleaded guilty to making threatening interstate communications. Authorities said he made the threats against Portland police in August via Twitter and email, threatening to shoot police officers from a parking garage.

Brungodt was in Portland as a tourist and was arrested at a hotel in Portland hours after making the threats. He never acted on them.

Brungodt is expected to ask to serve his sentence in Norway. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report.
