Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett is confident Jordan Kahu will be available for Thursday night's NRL clash with the Sydney Roosters after the winger missed training to be with his pregnant wife.

But Bennett confirmed ex-Gold Coast flyer David Mead was on stand by for Kahu, whose wife is due to give birth on Thursday.

"We are pretty sure the baby is coming today but David Mead is here (as a contingency)," Bennett said.

The Broncos coach confirmed bench utility Kodi Nikorima would play his first game of 2017 after battling a shoulder injury.

It is expected to add some much needed attacking spark for Brisbane who have slipped to a 2-3 record after last round's 10-7 loss to the Bulldogs.

Forward Jai Arrow has been cut from the bench.

"He had a major operation on his shoulder in the off-season and he has five weeks back in the local competition (Queensland Cup) here so it's time to bring him back," Bennett said of Nikorima.

"We need more points and that is what he (Nikorima) brings, a good attacking game."

Bennett played down a hamstring complaint for strike centre James Roberts.

The Brisbane master mentor also confirmed veteran back-up half Benji Marshall - off contract this year - will miss six weeks with a broken wrist suffered in Queensland Cup last weekend.
