New Zealand were at 1-38 at tea on the fourth day of the third Test against India after the hosts set an improbable 475-run second innings target on Tuesday.

Kane Williamson was unbeaten on 23, while Martin Guptill was on eight not out at the break.

India finished their second innings at 3-216 declared. Cheteshwar Pujara (101 not out) scored his eighth test hundred.

The declaration came soon after Pujara reached his hundred.

New Zealand got off to a bad start in their second dig as Tom Latham (six) was dismissed in the second over, with Umesh Yadav (1-8) trapping him lbw. They need another 437 runs to win the Test.

India have already secured the three-match series with an unassailable 2-0 lead.
