Aucklander Jeet Raval will open the batting with Dean Brownlie for New Zealand A in their three-day match against Pakistan at Saxton Oval in Nelson on Friday.

Up and coming Wellington wicketkeeper Tom Blundell will stand behind the stumps, while Henry Nicholls will captain the side.

Canterbury leg spinner Todd Astle and Auckland all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme carry good form into the fixture, both having scored hundreds and contributed with the ball for their provinces this season.

Selector Gavin Larsen said the side represented the next tier of talent to push a claim for future Black Caps selection.

"It's an exciting opportunity for these guys to match up against a quality Pakistan side," Larsen said.

"We've been impressed by the performances of these players in the Plunket Shield this year and last year, and see this as another step in their development."

Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan, Colin Munro and George Worker were not considered due to injury.

The Black Caps begin the first of their two Tests against Pakistan at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on November 17.

New Zealand A: Henry Nicholls, Todd Astle, Tom Blundell, Dean Brownlie, Colin de Grandhomme, Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson, Ed Nuttall, Bharat Popli, Jeet Raval, Will Young, Shawn Hicks (12th man)
