NZ achieves renewable energy record

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 29/09/2016

New Zealand's use of renewable energy reached a record 40.1 per cent of total primary supply last year, making it the third best in the world behind Iceland and Norway.

The figure is in the latest Energy in New Zealand report, released by the government on Thursday.

Total primary energy supply is a measure of all the energy used domestically in a country.

It includes all raw energy produced domestically, such as coal, oil and gas, and all energy imported such as petrol and diesel.

Energy Minister Simon Bridges says the government is working on new energy targets and the latest advance is very encouraging.
