NZ air crew best at military exercise

A New Zealand air force crew have pulled rank on their rivals during multi-national training exercises in the United States.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force 40 Squadron crew won the Top Cat award at Exercise Green Flag last month following simulations involving bomb drops, planning and tactics.

They were the best among 17 crews from the United States, Australia, Sweden and New Zealand.

Exercise Green Flag - held in Little Rock, Arkansas - provides experience in realistic combat environments, in this case, the RNZAF was assisting a US division fight a ground war.

Detachment Commander and Squadron Leader Leigh Foster says the RNZAF crew conducted air drops delivering food, water, and weapons and also undertook missions to deliver vehicles, large weaponry and ammunition.
