NZ basketballers end China tour with loss

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 24/07/2016

The New Zealand Select team have ended their tour of China on a losing note, defeated 73-71 by an import-laden Shenzhen team in Zhangshong.

Coach Pero Cameron says the second-tier Kiwi team can hold their heads high, despite the disappointing loss.

"We took the game into the final seconds and could maybe should have won it," he said.

"This tour is about developing our next level of talent, exposing players to international basketball and all the pressure that brings, and tonight was perfect in that regard."

Best for the New Zealanders were Jordan Ngatai (15), BJ Antony (14) and Derone Raukawa (11), but Cameron said the real value in the tour came in player and coach development.
