Hamish Rutherford scored a century while several other past and present Black Caps produced significant innings as their English county teams notched wins in the first round of the one-day competition.

Sixteen-Test opener Rutherford emerged from a slump with a power-packed 104 as Derbyshire ran down Worcestershire's 295 in Worcester. The 27-year-old struck seven fours and seven sixes in a 76-ball knock which swung the outcome.

Team-mate Neil Broom, who played the last of his 32 limited overs internationals in 2013, later produced an unbeaten 45 off 38 balls as Derbyshire reached 298-3 in the penultimate over.

Jesse Ryder also struck 71 off 70 balls as Essex overhauled Hampshire's 310-4 in Southampton.

The unwanted former Black Caps allrounder put on 143 for the second wicket with opener Tom Westley (110) as Essex reached 314-7 with three balls to spare.

Opener Martin Guptill provided 50 off 57 balls in Lancashire's 296-8 in Manchester. It proved too much for Warwickshire, who responded with 254-9.
