NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 25/06/2016

A fast-finishing New Zealand have beaten Australia 55-24 to snare fifth place at the junior rugby world championship in Manchester.

The New Zealand under-20 side scored four of their eight tries in the last 22 minutes to pull clear after having gone into halftime with the scores locked 21-21.

Second five-eighth Jordie Barrett kicked 15 points for the five-time tournament champions, who won a classification game earlier this week 71-12 over Wales.

Defending champions New Zealand failed to qualify for the semi-finals for the first-ever time after losing to Ireland in the group phase.

England dominated the final on Saturday, beating Ireland 45-21 to clinch a third title in the last four years.
