NZ doubles players into Swedish quarters

Two doubles combinations featuring New Zealanders have cruised into the the quarter-finals at the ATP Swedish Open in Bastad.

Third-seeded Artem Sitak and his American partner Nicholas Monroe beat Russians Evgeny Donskoy and Mikhail Elgin 7-5 6-1 in the first round.

On the other side of the draw, Olympic-bound Kiwi Marcus Daniell and Brazilian Demoliner beat Portugal pair 6-1 6-4.

Daniell's doubles partner at the Rio Games, Michael Venus, was knocked out in the first round of the German Tennis Championships in Hamburg. Venus and Croatian Mate Pavic lost 6-4 6-3 to French duo Jeremy Chardy and Stephane Robert.

Meanwhile, heavy rain has postponed Kiwi No.1 Marina Erakovic's first round match against German fifth seed Annika Beck at the Ladies Championship Gstaad in Switzerland.
